Mr. Colby Nelson
Assistant Instructor YKF / Nidan Yoshukai Karate

Colby Nelson has been a lifelong martial artist since first starting Chito-Ryu Yoshukai Karate under Sensei Rayburn Nichols at eight years old in 1996. He would go on to receive his Nidan, Second Degree black belt from Sensei Nichols.

With the rise in popularity of mixed martial arts and several successful amateur cage fights, Mr. Nelson began cross training in disciplines such as Brazilian jiujitsu and kickboxing. In 2007, he joined the U.S. Navy and while away serving abroad, he managed to find ways to train joining jiujitsu clubs and competing in base competitions.

In 2016, he left the military to pursue a career in law enforcement and due to the rigors of this career field he elected to continue training in Brazilian jiujitsu and earning a purple belt from Professor Kaliffa Oliveira at Gracie Barra Alabama. In order to aid his jiujitsu training, he later took up Judo training again under Sensei Kaliffa Oliveira at K.O. Judo and currently holds the rank of brown belt. Notable achievements in judo include winning the 2023 U.S. Open in the Veterans Novice division and finishing #2 in the USA Judo national rankings Master 2 -100kg.

Mr. Nelson is passionate about the teaching of martial arts as well as the discipline needed to be successful in those endeavors. He has been a lifelong student of Bushido, the way of the warrior, and seeks to pass this knowledge down to future students.
